Dialogue will resume after protest in Capital

-27 Feb 2015, Kathmandu - UCPN (Maoist) leader Baburam Bhattarai has said formal talks on the contentious issues of constitution writing will resume after the opposition’s demonstration in the Capital on Saturday.
There was no question of abandoning the Constituent Assembly, Bhattarai told reporters on Thursday, claiming that he had played a vital role in setting the agenda for the new
constitution.
He said that despite the “unilateral formation of the Questionnaire Committee” by the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML to put the disputes to vote, they had not yet abandoned the CA process.
Bhattarai also urged Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli to embrace the essence of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and other past pacts.
“The mandate of the revolution is bigger than the electoral mandate,” he said. “Election takes place every five years, but revolution occurs once in 50 -100 years. Therefore, the new constitution should be drafted on the basis of the mandate of the revolution.”
The Maoist leader, who returned to Kathmandu on Thursday after a three-week visit to western and mid-western districts, said the people want the constitution as soon as possible. There is widespread anger at the grass-roots and it could burst any time, Bhattarai said. He also warned that there is a chance of revolt in the Tarai.
