30 November 2014, Lamjung-The number of HIV/AIDS infected people in Lamjung district is gradually rising with 181 people, including 22 children, affected by the disease.
According to the District AIDS Coordination Committee, Lamjung and various other organizations working in the field, out of the 181 infected, only two have come out in public. The rest are living in anonymity, fearing social stigma and humiliation.
Stakeholders opine that people still carry misconception that HIV is transmitted mainly to those who are involved in immoral sexual behaviours, therefore, it is imperative to dispel this illusionary impression.
Among those affected, 104 are male whereas 77 women have been recorded to have been carrying the HIV virus.
So far 10 people have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS, according to the District Public Health Office.
