Oli calls agitating parties for dialogue and consensus

21  Jan 2015, Bhaktapur: CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has appealed to the agitating parties to come for a dialogue and consensus by quitting the protests.

At a press meet at his Balkot residence on Wednesday, the UML leader said that doors to dialogue were open for a consensus. "Strikes and agitation is just a suffering. Join the talks and dialogue by leaving the streets," Oli added.

Oli, however, added that efforts were going on to issue the constitution on a consensus stating that constitution writing would not stop though the deadline of January 22 was over. Saying that Constituent Assembly (CA) can prepare a new calendar, the UML chairman said that the CA has not ceased though the calendar was over.

He added that consensus would not be forged in any issue that would destabilize social harmony and national unity as well as divide the Tarai and Hill. "New constitution should be promulgated for peace, democracy, social justice, equality, national unity and prosperity," Oli said. On the occasion, Oli floated four proposals for a consensus including two-thirds majority for bringing the new constitution, maximizing the number of the two-thirds majority, bringing all parties inside CA to a consensus and finally forging consensus with other parties remaining outside the CA. Attack was preplanned On the occasion, Oli added that the attack on him at the CA meeting on early Tuesday was preplanned. "Of the four microphones targeted at me, one came to me; second to Bidhya Bhandari, third to lawmaker Rishi Pokharel and the last dropped on the floor," Oli claimed. Likewise, Oli made it clear that he is not eyeing the prime ministerial berth. "My aim is not the post. I have not looked at the chair. My attention is towards constitution writing." RSS
