SC orders govt to form Madhesi commission

-10 Mar 2015, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court(SC) has issued a mandamus order to the government to form a Madhesi Commission . The apex court issued the ruling in a writ filed by advocate Sanilranjan Singh demanding theMadhesi Commission .
A division bench of Justice Girish Chandra Lal and Justice Dipakraj Joshi on Monday issued the order to the government to enact appropriate laws in order to address the empowerment of
Madhesi community and to ensure their equal rights.
After the apex ruling, advocate Singh said the SC’s order has been an important achievement for Madhes and Madhesi people. “Now the government will be obliged to form the commission,” he said.
The SC decision has directed the government to uphold section 154 of the Interim Constitution while addressing the demand of the applicant.
Section 154 provisions the formation of various commissions in order to protect and promote the rights of women, marginalised community, Adibasi, Janjati, Madhesi, differently-abled, working class, among other groups.
Advocates Govinda Sharma Bandi, Surendra Kumar Mahato, Dipendra Jha and Singh himself defended on behalf of the petitioner.
